  4. OK, I’ll share mine. One friend would telephone me periodically. She would ask how the new job was going. Great, I would say. then she would go through one thing after another until she found one thing that wasn’t going so great and zero in on that so she could commiserate with me, sympathize on how terrible this must be in my life. Of course, the rest of my day was ruined. Eventually I realized this “friend” wasn’t truly a friend at all. I changed my phone number and dropped her out of my life. I have sometimes wondered who’s life she was making miserable now, but not enough to contact her again. Ever. Sometimes friends do not act like friends because they are NOT friends in the first place.

  8. From personal experiences, a behavior is often driven by situations. People behave distinctly different when they are confronted with tough situations. So when a friend behaves like an absolute stranger, there could be a solid reason that we never cared to understand.
